Jim Cornelison: Blackhawks Singer Gives Bears Much Needed Boost – Bleacher Report

Jim Cornelison is no stranger to giant sized crowds. He has been the voice of the Blackhawks national anthem for years. But today he was asked to step outside his comfort zone. He was needed on a cold blustery day in Chicago’s Soldier Field.

Cornelison sang the national anthem at today’s NFC divisional contest pitting the Chicago Bears against the Seattle Seahawks. Immediately, those unfamiliar with Cornelison and his vocal talents were amazed. He gives a weight and gravitas to this nation’s greatest song that is sometimes missing from pregame festivities.

The rousing rendition of the national anthem certainly worked to give the Chicago Bears a jolt of energy. The Bears came out of the gate firing against the Seahawks. The defense stopped anything that the Seahawks threw at them in the first half. The result was a second round win for the Bears and a trip to the NFC Championship game.

1999 Time Magazine Person of the Century was Albert Einstein: For a good reason – Examiner.com

On Million Dollar Money Drop one of the smartest men who walked the earth was highlighted. He was the 1999 Time Magazine Person of the century. Most of us would recognize his picture and almost everyone could contribute one thing to the legend.  That is unless you are on a game show.

Tonight most of us watched the Million Dollar Money Drop to see two contestants battle it out for the chance to win a million. The question that had one couple extremely stumped was 1999 Time Magazine Person of the Century. The possible answers included Albert Einstein, Elvis Presley and Bill Gates. The final answer was Albert Einstein.

The first paragraph of the article from Time Magazine captures the man as who he was and what he did for mankind.

He was the embodiment of pure intellect, the bumbling professor with the German accent, a comic cliche in a thousand films. Instantly recognizable, like Charlie Chaplin’s Little Tramp, Albert Einstein’s shaggy-haired visage was as familiar to ordinary people as to the matrons who fluttered about him in salons from Berlin to Hollywood.

Albert Einstein lived from 1879 to 1955. During this time he was widely known and was choosen by Time Magazine for his contributions to life as we know it today.

As for the remaining people who could have been on the top of Time Magazine, Bill Gates and Elvis Presley could be on the top of the magazine but their contributions were not as significant as Einstein’s. That’s not to say they weren’t worthy, but on a scale were towards the bottom!

Dan Connolly: Patriots Guard Amazing Run Caps Strange Game – Bleacher Report

Dan Connolly had a fairly good night. As it is, linemen don’t usually end up with a near 100 yard game. But that is just what the guard for the New England Patriots did on Sunday night. With minutes left on the clock in Foxboro, the guard fielding a flubbed kickoff. He then ran 71 yards down field getting taken down by Packers defenders at the two yard line.

The Patriots would later score in the drives with a two yard pass from Tom Brady to Aaron Hernandez. Brady was again magnificent in this one but found tremendous amusement in the kick return. He told ESPN, ”I’ve never seen anything happen so slow in my life,” Brady said with a laugh. “They won’t be kicking to him anymore, I’ll tell you that.”

The Patriots are the hottest team in the NFL. It seems that no matter what they do, they win. They now can count on their linemen to be other worldly.

Season’s first snowstorm blankets Howard County – Explore Howard County

Season’s first snowstorm blankets Howard County
After-school activities, meetings canceled

Howard County is experiencing its first significant snowstorm of the season, a storm that has resulted in slick roads, accidents and canceled meetings.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the county and surrounding areas that remains in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday. The advisory notes that the snow is expected to accumulate one to three inches.

“Light snow will continue through the afternoon before tapering off early this evening,” the advisory reads.

The county, with more than 60 trucks out, started salting the roads at 10:45 a.m., spokesman Kevin Enright said, and was about two-thirds of the way finished by 1:30 p.m.

“At this time, we’re probably done salting,” he said in a phone conversation at 2:30 p.m.. “We consider the roads, most of the main roads and the side roads passable. The main roads are certainly better the side roads.”

The county had not started pushing snow as of 2 p.m., Enright said.

“We have plans to do that if enough has accumulated on the roads,” he said.

County police have reported several fender benders and accidents resulting from cars skidding on the slick roads, Enright said, but he did not have an exact number.

“I haven’t heard of anything major at this time,” he said regarding the accidents.

The county government went on liberal leave at 2:30 p.m., Enright said, which means employees can leave work if authorized by their supervisors.

While schools closed early because of the storm in neighboring Prince George’s, Anne Arundel and Baltimore Counties, Howard County public schools remained open.

“We figured if we went a little later (with the school day), the county would have time to get to the roads,” school system spokeswoman Patti Caplan said.

“We have to make the decision to dismiss by 10:30 a.m. At that point, given the tracking of the storm, if we had an early dismissal, we would have let out at the peak of the storm, so we’re giving the county time to salt the roads. We realized that the conditions could deteriorate later this evening, so we made the decision not to have kids staying later for after school activities.”

The following meetings and activities have been canceled:

• Howard County Public School System after-school activities

• Board of Education meeting

• Human Rights Commission meeting

• Slayton House, in Columbia’s Wilde Lake, announced it would close at 3:30 and canceled all activities and meetings.
